We had a chance to test out the SaberCut survival saw from Ultimate Survival Technologies. For fire wood or shelter material, cutting large limbs and trees are no match for this chainsaw type blade. This is a sturdy and well made tool built from quality materials. It will last a long time, is capable of being re-sharpened. The blade is made to cut in both directions and clean its own cut as the blade moves.

This Benchmade 710 is one of the original knifes that introduced the AXIS lock. The first 200 or so knives were built and sold with aluminum handles. Ths is one of the second version which had scales (handles) made of G10. The 710 was the knife that introduced the AXIS lock. The AXIS lock is a very easy to use knife lock that can be operated with either hand. It's strong and fast to open and close.

The last LED fell apart so it was time for a new small keychain LED. This tiny all aluminum Nanolight LED looks like it will work well. It is under $10 so it is not a large investment, and it seems rugged enough to last longer than the plastic one I used before this one.

The Freedom Micro is a bright light is a small but tough unit. This light is packed full of features, but is about the size and weight of a US quarter. We have used keyring lights from LFI for many years and this new Photon Freedom Micro is another great item from them, that is made in the USA. I stopped in and talked with Russell the owner of Desert Surplus. He is a good guy, knows a lot about the surplus business and has done a great job of stocking his store with of the stuff you like to see in a surplus store.

Like all good surplus stores the inventory is always changing so stop in often.

The LMF II was designed by Jeff Freeman for Gerber. It has a 4.8 inch blade, and an overall length of 10.6 inches. It weighs 11.4 ounces and is made of 12C27 Stainless Steel. It has a partially serrated, drop point blade. The handle is made of glass filled nylon with a rubber covering. The Gerber LMF II has a Glass-filled nylon with rubber (TPV) overmold and ballistic nylon with fire retardant coating. The LMF II sheath has a built-in sharpener. The Gerber LMF II is one of the strongest survival knives we've reviewed so far.
